This post is about my feelings. successes and failings of the EDC3100 course. I will also provide a couple of ICT links that I have come across in my travels.
Firstly, I struggled to keep up with the work load of the course. Personally, I think the load was too much to be realistic and negatively impacted on the quality of the course. I found it difficult to engage as fully with the weekly learning activities due to the amount of work required. My knowledge of ICT and internet usability was limited and made moving through the activities time consuming. Perhaps more tech savvy students did not find this a problem.
Secondly, prac was awesome. My mentor teacher was happy to see me try my hand at ICT integration. However, due to contextual issues, that was not easy. My mentor preferred a co-teaching style, which enabled me to gain a great deal of teaching time and therefore, increased experience.
Thirdly, I did enjoy learning about how to integrate ICT into the classroom. I definitely believe that this course is a necessity. I believe that I will be better able to integrate ICT into the classroom now.
Lastly, I believe the blogging component was very important, especially with developing a PLN. I think an improvement could be to reduce the posts required to 1 for reflection/course content interaction and 1 for ICT finds/ideas for the classroom per week. I would also prefer that the posts are read and commented on by the course staff. The weighting in the assessment tasks does not reflect the time and effort required to fulfill the obligations set out in the Learning Journal component (15% course total).
