Camera In Use!

An opportunity to use ICT during practical experience presented itself when photos were required to be taken by students for a photography competition. Instead of just letting the students use the camera at lunchtime, I decided to make good use of an authentic opportunity to teach art. In a small group, 5 students wondered the school grounds looking for nature to photograph. The curriculum descriptor that I focused was:

Media techniques and practices, including crop, print, record/capture and sequence images,
sounds and words, are used to create media texts

e.g.  cropping a digital image to create a close-up from a long shot.

We discussed how different angles, light, and distance could be used to enhance the image or create focus to present a better picture for the competition. Students were able to put their ideas and suggestions into practice and experiment with taking photos for a purpose.
